Yokohama to exit aircraft tyre business
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., today announced its decision to retreat from the aircraft (AC) tyre business. Since 1940, Yokohama Rubber has been engaged in the manufacture and sale of new and retreaded aircraft tyres for domestic airlines and the Japanese military. The company however has decided to withdraw from the business because sales are a minor part of Yokohama Rubber's whole business and they have no strong growth potential for the future.
Yokohama Rubber plans to stop product deliveries on a step-by-step basis by the end of 2009 and will cease all follow-up services during 2010. The company said it will decidde at a later date what is to be done with the aircraft tyre plant in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture and the employees there and elsewhere. Yokohama Rubber said its aircraft tyre sales would record approximately 800 million yen in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.
