Toyo to launch tyre with recycled polyester in Europe
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo -- Teijin Ltd has said that its novel concept for tyre cords using recycled polyester will be available to European consumers when Toyo Tire & Rubber introduces its Proxes NE tyre to Europe this month.
Teijin has introduced in Japan its Eco Circle idea, in which the company collects waste polyester from its customers, and re-processes it to make tyre cord yarns. Toyo was the first customer for this product, and Toyo introduced the proxes product to Japanese consumers last year. The product will be launched to European consumers this year. Teijin said it had no plans to introduce the Eco Circle concept to Europe at the launch last year.
Developed by Teijin Fibers, Eco Circle is a closed-loop recycling system for used polyester products. The system employs the world's first technology for chemical recycling, which chemically decomposes polyester for conversion into new polyester raw materials that offer purity comparable to those derived from petroleum. Teijin Fibers cooperates with over 100 registered apparel and sportswear manufacturers worldwide for the development and manufacture of products made from recyclable materials, as well as to collect and recycle these products at the end of their useful lives. Non-Japanese members of the Eco-Circle include major manufacturers such as Patagonia Inc. in the U.S., Quiksilver in France and Swany America.
