Cooper to lay off staff at UK tyre plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Melksham, UK -- Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd is seeking to reduce by 4 percent the workforce at its UK plant in Melksham, Wiltshire and will begin seeking voluntary redundancies in May.
The Company said in a statement that it is aiming to reduce its workforce by between 30 and 50 jobs out of the 1000 currently employed at Melksham, with most of the job losses being in the engineering and rubber-working departments.
The statement added, "These are difficult decisions but the Company must continue to reduce its costs in the current economic environment in order to remain competitive for our markets."
