Hankook Korea profits plunge 91% in first quarter

Seoul, Korea -- Hankook Tire's Korean operations returned a small profit in the first three months of 2009. The company reported its results on Thursday. Sales for the three months to 31 March 2009 amounted to KRW 619 837 million (euro 366 million), up slightly from the KRW 616 468 million reported a year ago.
The company recorded a positive income of KRW 2855 million (euro 1.69 million), compared to KRW 31 429 million a year ago.
The operating result showed a profit of KRW 43 562 millino, down from KRW 85 074 million.
