Kraiburg develops EPDM compound for 150°C - 170°C
ERJ staff report (DS)
Waldkraiburg, Germany -- Kraibuirg's latest generation of EPDM compounds offers an upper temperature limit of 150°C (long-term) and 170°C (short-term).
Historically, the long-term temperature resistance of these compounds was limited to around 100°C and 130°C for the cross-linking agents sulphur and peroxide respectively, whereby the type of stress played a crucial role for the assessment of the durability of the material. Above around 130°C, compounders had to resort to acrylics or even silicones
Kraiburg said vulcanisates produced from its new HT-EPDM compounds show excellent ageing resistance, minimum hardening and low permanent deformation even at these higher temperature levels. This means that EPDM can now be used for applications that were previously too hot for the product.
