ECHA moves closer to controlling high-risk substances
ERJ staff report (DS)
Helsinki, Finland -- Seven substances rated, "of very high concern" will be added to the so-called Authorisation List of EChA, the European Chemicals Agency, which is charged with implementing REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals) legislation. The decision follows a recommendation by EChA's Member States Committee, and supports the Secretariat's opinion.
The Agency will finalise its recommendation on these substances, taking into account the Opinion of the Member State Committee, and submit it to the European Commission by 1June 2009.
The list of seven substances include short chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) - a substance mostly used as flame retardant and/or plasticiser in various applications such as high performance rubber, sealants, paints or textile coatings.
