Online tyre shoppers urged to put safety first

London - TyreSafe, a UK organisation dedicated to raising tyre safety awareness, has urged online shoppers to look carefully when buying tyres and to put safety first.

“When shopping for tyres, many motorists hold the misconception that their choice of speed symbol should be determined by how fast they drive,” said Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe chairman. Jackson said that the reality is that a tyres speed symbol is not just a measure of the tyre's maximum speed capability, “it also provides an indication of overall performance, even at lower speeds.”

Instead of buying tyres when they are due to be replaced said that many motorists are now purchasing tyres because of price comparisons, loyalty point schemes, TyreSafe said. Motorists must consider the recommended size, load index and speed symbol when shopping online to ensure safe driving.
