Omnova, union reach agreement at latex plant

Fairlawn, Ohio -- Omnova Solutions Inc. and union workers at its Performance Chemicals business segment plant in Mogadore, Ohio, have reached a new three-year contract agreement.
The contract covers about 56 bargaining unit members and extends through May 31, 2012. The workers are represented by the International Chemical Workers Council and Local 419-C of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
Omnova employs about 106 total at the Mogadore site, which specialises in styrene butadiene latex. Products manufactured at the facility are used as binders and adhesives for a wide variety of applications, including paper coatings, carpet backing, non-wovens and construction infrastructure.
SB latex is Omnova's largest single product line, with about half of the company's global sales generated from this chemistry. The firm reported sales of $869 million in 2008.
