Three Michelin employees missing following French plane crash
ERJ staff report (DS)
Paris -- Two senior executives from Michelin's South American operations were on board Air France AF 447 which went missing over the Atlantic yesterday while en route from Rio to Paris.
A Michelin spokeswoman confirmed that South America president Luiz Roberto Anastacio and regional IT director Antonio Gueiro were both on board the plane and are currently classed as missing. Both are Brazilian nationals and are based in Michelin's offices in Rio de Janeiro. They were travelling back to Michelin's headquarters for a meeting. The spokeswoman confirmed that a third employee of Michelin, Christine Pieraerts was also on board the plane. Pieraerts, who lives in France, was travelling separately from the two other men, and in a private capacity.
The company said all thoughts are currently with the families and colleagues of the three people, who are still listed as missing until the rescue services can provide further information about what happened to the flight and its passengers and crew.
She said it is too early to make any decisions about personnel changes or responsibilities. She added that both Brazil and the South American region are important business areas for Michelin, but she was confident that the leadership in the Rio office would react professionally and effectively in the face of this crisis.
