Bridgestone gets $1.9M grant for Akron tech centre

Akron, Ohio -- Bridgestone Americas has received a $1.9 million Rapid Outreach Grant from the state of Ohio for costs associated with the construction of a $100 million technical centre in Akron.
The Ohio Controlling Board on June 1 approved a request from the Ohio Department of Development to allocate funds for the project. The grant money will go toward machinery and equipment purchases as well as renovation and infrastructure improvements.
According to the request, machinery and equipment costs for the project are estimated to be about $12.2 million, while on-site renovations, infrastructure/site preparations and construction will cost about $53.4 million.
The department plans to request an additional $1 million in grant aid for the project in fiscal year 2010, according to the request.
