UK tyre retailers suffer from fly tipping
ERJ staff report (DS)
London -- Over one third of all UK tyre retailers have seen tyres dumped illegally on their property in the last six months. The data, from a survey by the UK-based National Tyre Distributors' Association (NTDA), shows that 36 percent of tyre retailers have had waste tyres dumped on their premises in the past six months, with many experiencing multiple incidents.
The Tyre Recovery Association Ltd (TRA), quoting NTDA data, said the worst part of this is the lack of co operation from the organisation charged with enforcement. NTDA said, "when reported to the Environment Agency most of the affected retailers felt that the EA response was mostly one of disinterest."
The TRA claims that most tyres can be easily and beneficially re-cycled but to do so requires all those retailers, vehicle dismantlers and others to fully embrace best practice. The TRA is also calling on the Environment Agency to try even harder in the fight against waste tyre crime.
