Fujikura to remain in profit despite sharp sales decline

-- Fujikura Rubber Ltd reported sales down by 12 percent for the 12 months ended 31
March, 2009, and expects sales to fall further in the current year. Fujikura offer a range of goods and services from industrial goods, composites, sports goods and life-saving equipment such as tents, inflatable boats and and survival suits.
Sales for the 12 months amounted to yen 27 300
million (euro 200 million), down by 12.4 percent on the previous year.
The company expects sales in the six months to 30 Sep 2009 to be down by
by 32.1 percent on the 2008 figure, at yen 10 900 million. Sales for the
full year are expected to be yen 22 700 million, down by around 16.8
percent on the most recent year.
Despite the poor sales
figures, Fujikura expects to report a positive operating profit in each of
the periods. In the most recent 12 months, operating profit was yen 1050
million,around half the yen 2330 million profit posted a year
previously. The forecast for the current year is a profit of yen 600
million, recovering from a profit of yen 200 million in the first
half.
In terms of net profit, Fujikura recorded yen 297 million
for the most recent year, a 68 percent decline from the profit of yen 944
million a year ago. The company expects a profit of yen 100 million in
the first half, climbing toyen 400 million for the full year ended March
2010.
