Trelleborg Sealing to close New Hampshire factory
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Somersworth, New Hampshire - Trelleborg Group's Trelleborg Sealing Solutions unit plans to close its plant in Somersworth within the next nine months, resulting in the loss of 91 jobs.
The decision was part of an overall restructuring of its Global Elastomers Business Unit and was caused by “continued financial pressure on our businesses brought about by the current economic climate,†according to a company statement.
Job cuts will begin in September and continue over the coming months, depending on equipment transfer schedules.
Trelleborg said all product lines will be relocated to other Sealing Solutions manufacturing locations, mainly in North America. Aerospace products will be moved to the firm's facility in Northborough, Massachusetts; fabric-reinforced diaphragms and other moulded products will go to the Tijuana, Mexico, factory; and selected radial seal products to the Turin, Italy, unit.
