Michelin hosts eathmover tyre experience day
ERJ staff report (DS)
Paris - Michelin held a XHA2 Experience Day for Off-road tyre specialists  on 2-4 June, 2009, at the Michelin Technology centre in Almeria, Spain. Around 140 earthmover tyre dealers attended the event, which followed a similar day for journalists held in April.
The technology centre is the largest of its kind in the world and devoted exclusively to the development of earthmover tyres, Michelin said. Visitors were able to test loaders fitted with the new Michelin XHA2 lineup and judge the tyres' performance.
The XHA2 is designed for small and mid-size loaders and has sold 1.5 million units globally since its launch in the late 1980s. According to Michelin, the tyre has had additional rubber incorporated into its tread to increase damage resistance, the sidewalls have been straightened with a special protective rib and anti-scrape shields, and the company also developed “crack rotation rubber compounds†that help prevent flats, the company said.
The technology centre was created in 1977 and covers 4500 hectares, including more than 100 km of tracks.
