Lanxess announces World Rubber Day (12 Sept 2009)

Leverkusen, Germany -- Lanxess AG has said 12 Sept, 2009 is to be designated the first ever World Rubber Day.
German patent. No. 250690 for a “process for manufacturing artificial rubber†was granted on September 12, 1909. It was awarded to chemist Fritz Hofmann, a researcher at the laboratories of “Elberfelder Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedr. Bayer & Co.†- a company whose tradition is carried on today by the specialty chemicals group Lanxess.
This patent described the manufacture of methyl rubber and was the first ever for a synthetic rubber.
