Voronezhsintezkauchuk adds Nd-BR, S-SBR
ERJ staff report (DS)
Voronezh, Russia -- Voronezhsintezkauchuk has converted part of its polybutadiene rubber production to neodymium catalysts and has started making solution-SBR (S-SBR). At present, rubber samples are being examined by potential customers. The plant in Voronezh, Russia is part of the Sibur conglomerate.
Voronezhsintezkauchuk's total butadiene rubber capacity  will still total 160 kta but 70 kt of that has now been converted to the new technology. The plant might completely convert all production to the new materials, should demand justify the investment.
This initial conversion represented an investment of 800 mln RUR (euro 18.3 million). Most technology solutions were implemented by the plant's R&D centres. Energy costs fell by 5-7 percent as one of the project's economic benefits. .
SIBUR President Dmitry Konov said, “We are improving the profitability of our plants through comprehensive dealing with environmental, technology upgrade and operating cost reduction issuesâ€.
