Malaysian NR output continued to fall in April

Kuala Lumpur -- In the month of April, production of NR in Malaysia was 55 690 tonnes, a decline of 24 percent compared to April 2008, but up by 17.5 percent compared to the previous month.
Exports for the month amounted to 45 670 tonnes, a decrease of 49 percent on the same month a year ago and a fall of 6.4 percent on the month of March.
Imports, however, grew. Malaysia imported 51 380 tonnes in April, up by 22.5 percent on the figure for April 2008 and up by 7.9 percent on March 2009.
Despite these swings in trade, domestic consumption was recorded at 37 170 tonnes, up by 7.5 percent on the year-before figure, though marginally down on last month's consumption.
