Tokai to market seismic dampers -- for wooden houses

Tokyo, Japan -- Tokai Rubber Industries, Ltd. is to begin marketing earthquake bearings designed to protect new and existing wooden houses. Japan is regularly affected by earthquakes and many buildings are still made form wood.
The company said its proprietary TRC damper is a seismic vibration control unit having a special viscoelastic rubber which absorbs seismic energy. The product offers seismic grade 1, which means it reduces shaking and deformation by up to half.
The company is active in seismic control technology and has products available for mid-to high-rise buildings and steel-framed houses.
