NHTSA issues proposal on tyre fuel efficiency ratings
ERJ staff report (TB)
Washington DC -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued its long-awaited proposal on labeling tyres with fuel efficiency ratings.
NHTSA issued the proposed rule in response to a provision in the Energy Independence and Security Act, which Congress passed in December 2007. Contained in the document is a proposed requirement for labeling tyres with ratings for fuel efficiency (rolling resistance), durability (treadwear) and safety (traction).
The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) and its tyre manufacturing members were still studying the 148-page text at press time.
