EC relents (slightly) on tyre markings due for October 2009
ERJ staff report (DS)
Brussels -- Member States and the Commission have come to an agreement last week concerning tyres held in stock at dealerships which are claimed to be compliant with 2001/43 requirements but unmarked.
This refers to noise limits on tyres agreed in 2001 which are due to come into force later this year.
- Each type of tyre would have to be submitted to a test to show compliance with the noise requirements set out in Directive 2001/43/EC.
- A test report would have to be produced (by the tyre manufacturers, in case they are accredited as technical services, or by any other accredited technical service) and validated by a type-approval authority (not necessarily the same who delivered the original type-approval);
- Each tyre sold would have to be accompanied by a certificate summarising the information contained in the test report;
- No “s†marking would be required for the tyres fulfilling the conditions set out above.
- This regime would apply only to tyres produced by week 40 of 2009;
Manufacturers have to submit tyres for testing; the test report has to be validated by a type-approval authority; and each tyre has to be accompanied by a certificate summarising the result of the test. The system is not a self-certification system.
