California drops proposed tyre aging bill
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Sacramento, California -- A California Senate committee has pulled a proposed tyre aging bill from consideration because of a lack of votes needed for passage.
A.B. 496, which would have required tyre dealers to share tyre age information with customers, was scheduled to be heard yeterday by the state senate's Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee after last week's hearing was postponed.
A spokesman from the Rubber Manufacturers Association said the measure's “trial lawyer sponsors†requested the bill be pulled because it appeared the committee would have voted to defeat A.B. 496.
However, the bill is still eligible for future consideration through 2010 because it wasn't put up for a Senate committee vote. The RMA said it would continue to monitor the legislation and similar measures that may come up.
