Bekaert sales fall, but Asian activities compensate

Kortrijk, Belgium -- Bekaert's saw consolidated sales down by 7.9 percent in the six months to 30 June 2009. Sales in South America almost doubled, while sales in Asia-Pacific grew by 15 percent, almost off-setting the 30 percent fall in sales in Europe (EMEA).
The company's combined sales (including joint ventures and minority shareholdings) showed a slightly different picture, with overall sales down by 18 percent, and sales in Asia Pacific up by 13 percent
The company no longer reports its results by segment, so gave no information on steel cord activities.
