CRIA opens campaign to resist US tyre tariffs
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing, China -- The China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA) has posted a series of documents on its website urging the United States to allow free trade in tyres and not to impose sanctions on Chinese-made tyres.
The home page of the site includes a section on, "coping with the U.S. Special Safeguard Measure to Chinese-Made Tires". It links to four further pages. The first is a letter (in English) from Fan Rende, Chairman of CRIA outlining the background to the case and China's position on the case.
The second is an open letter to US President, Barack Obama, The third is an open letter to USTR. The fourth item is an open letter to the US-based Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA)
Together, the letters spell out the Chinese side of the case. IN the letter to Barack Obama, the CRIA says, "the petition raised by the United Steelworkers is only supported by less than half of the tire workers." It continues, "no U.S. tire manufacturer has claimed (much less, itself documented) harm from Chinese tire imports." It concludes, "Mr. President, we look forward to your fair and final decision not to adopt the special safeguard measure."
