Lanxess takes Nanoprene commercial
ERJ staff report (DS)
Leverkusen, Germany -- Lanxess AG said it is ready to take its Nanoprene product into series production. The company has been heavily promoting the material to tyre companies with the claim that it can improve tyre performance. The company said the new nanoparticles as an additive can improve wet grip, rolling resistance and service life of tyres without having to make compromises.
Comment at the recent IRC event in Nuremberg called these claims into question, but the company has issued a press release claiming only that, "using Nanoprene in summer tyres, for example, improves dry road grip by between 10 and 15 percent."
The Technical Rubber Products business unit markets these nanoscale particles under the registered trademark Nanoprene, while Rhein Chemie Rheinau GmbH sells the additive under the brand name Micromorph.
