New Japanese premier is grandson of Shojiro Ishibashi
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo -- Japan's new Prime Minister-designate ,Yukio Hatoyama, is the son of Yasuko Hatoyama, one of the daughters of Shojiro Ishibashi, the founder of Bridgestone Corporation and heir to his considerable fortune. His paternal grandfather, former Prime Minister Ichiro Hatoyama, was a founder and the first president of the Democratic Party of Japan (DJP).
Hatoyama is set to become the next Prime Minister of Japan on 16th September 2009, following a win by the opposition coalition led by the Democratic Party of Japan.
DPJ, which captured 308 of the lower house's 480 seats in Sunday's election, has pledged to name about 100 lawmakers from the DPJ-led coalition in government posts as senior vice ministers and parliamentary secretaries. Some central government officials have voiced concerns over the DPJ's real ability to govern, considering that the party has a large number of inexperienced lawmakers.
