CBp starts initial production at commercial carbon plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Bratislava, Slovakia -- CBp Carbon Industries, Inc. has said it has completed construction of a large tyre pyrolysis plant in Cyprus. The unit is currently operating in start-up phase and has started receiving tipping fees from scrap tyres.
he new plant is just finishing 'hot tests' (processing scrap tyres) and will enter continuous commercial operations in Q4. It is scheduled to reach full output in Q1 2010 when the company has completed its pelletising process for the carbon products, sold under the brand name of Carbon Green -- as opposed to carbon black.
CBp has one main customer -- Triputra Group, in Indonesia -- which has signed a 200,000 tonne per year 'take or pay' contract for Carbon Green.
CBp said its product has, "been chosen by the EU as the only qualifying/best available technology to meet EU strict tyre recycling standards."
It further said demand for its products has, "greatly increased with the EU's recent requirement that all tyres contain a minimum 5% recycled material.
The company said it is carrying out due diligence on a second production site, in addition to the Cyprus plant and a pilot plant.
