Oral history interviews now available

Akron, Ohio - Oral history interviews with innovators and leaders of the early rubber industry collected by the ACS Rubber Division now are available to the public.

The interviews date back to 1964, when Herbert Endres, the Rubber Division's historian, began recording discussions with people who had made significant contributions to rubber science and technology. They included scientists, engineers, publishers, executives, academics and representatives of the publishing industry and the United Rubber Workers Union. Many of these individuals are recipients of the Charles Goodyear Medal, the highest scientific award given by the division.

Ben Kastein succeeded Endres as historian and continued the project, and was followed by Shelby Washko.

The interviews are available in a digital audio format and accessible through the Summit Memory Project, a collaborative digital project administered by the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
