Dow Chemical opens US elastomer lab

Freeport, Texas -- Dow Chemical Co. has opened a laboratory for its elastomer business at its Freeport research and development facility.
The lab will be used for compounding, mixing, processing and testing thermoset elastomers. The company said it complements the existing polymer analysis, material science and physical testing capabilities at the site in support of Dow Elastomers' technical service, application development, and R&D of polymer products.
Dow also is in the final stages of completing a 25 million pound debottlenecking of its Plaquemine, La., EPDM rubber site, expected to be completed in the first quarter next year.
