Pirelli said the restructuring will simplify its organizational structure and lead to annual savings of about $15 million.
The new tyres and parts department will incorporate activities of purchasing, administration and control, Pirelli Labs, advertising and events, human resources, health, safety and evironment and the service centers for information technology and administrative activities.
Pirelli's board of directors said the restructuring supports the aims of the 2009-2011 industrial plan to focus on the core business.
The filters business, which operates as Pirelli Eco Technology, is specialized in technologies that can reduce emissions from diesel vehicles and heating plants. It generated $92 million in sales last year.
