Rubber companies face REACH deadline on 30 Nov
ERJ staff report (DS)
Helsinki -- EChA, the European Chemicals Agency charged with implementing REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals) legislation has said companies which use chemicals must notify their suppliers in writing how those chemicals are used by 30 November. The deadline applies only if the substance needs to be registered before 1 December 2010.
EChA says, "As a user of a chemical (Downstream User) you should inform your suppliers about your use of a substance if you want the supplier to consider your use in relation to his registration." Companies are advised to contact their suppliers to see if the application has already been identified and if not, to contact the local Rubber Association, or the ETRMA in relation to use mappings.
If rubber companies do not communicate the use and it is not covered by a supplier's Exposure Scenario, users will eventually need to prepare a Chemical Safety Assessment once the substance has been registered.
