PolymerLatex opens nitrile latex plant in Malaysia

Pasir Gudang, Malaysia -- PolymerLatex GmbH has opened a nitrile latex plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor State. The plant is PolymerLatex's largest and first plant outside of Europe.
The RM250 million (euro 50 million) plant will have capacity for 100,000 tonnes of nitrile latex a year and is expected to generate annual turnover of RM373 million (euro 75 million) annually.
"We will be transferring our global research and development (R&D) for dipping and application development lab from Germany to Malaysia," said Vinny Bhalla, ceo and managing director of PolymerLatex Sdn Bhd.
The plant currently employs 84, which will increase to 96 once the R&D activities jhave been transferred.
In August 2007, PolymerLatex said the plant would be on stream in the third quarter of 2009, adding, "PolymerLatex will obtain local supplier status to the Glove Dipping industry with all the benefits lying in a highly integrated production facility with the near raw material sources and an optimum logistic set up with Johor port next door."
Malaysia has increased production of nitrile rubber gloves in recent years.
