Bridgestone supplies Eco tyres for Merc hybrids in Japan

Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp. has started supplying Potenza RE050 Ecopia tyres as standard equipment for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid long. The tyre size will be 255/45R18 99Y.
Bridgestone said, 87 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions in a tyre's life cycle occur during the usage stage. Bridgestonesaysit can make a significant contribution to addressing worldwide environmental issues such as global warming through the development of tyres that provide greater reduction in rolling resistance, and thus improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The company said a 185/70R14 tyre generates around 296.4 kg of CO2during its lifetime. This divides as folows:
- 4.1 percent on raw materials
- 1.5 percent on production (including design)
- 0.2 percent on distribution and logistics
- 87 percent on product usage (rolling resistance)
- 7.2 percent on disposal and recovery costs.
