Solutia to re-start sulphur plant, as demand improves
ERJ staff report (DS)
St. Louis - Solutia Inc. said it is to reopen a factory making its Crystex brand of insoluble sulphur by early November. In April Solutiia said it would temporarily idle the plant in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, and layoff employees there because of a “dramatic†drop in product demand. Solutia said the plant has been idle since June 2009.
“Demand for Crystex insoluble sulfur has improved significantly since the first quarter of 2009,†said Greta Senn, vice president of Crystex. “We look forward to welcoming back our employees and serving our customers. Restarting the plant will continue to ensure a steady and reliable supply of insoluble sulfur to our tire customers worldwide.â€
