ETRMA supports EU tyre labelling proposal
ERJ staff report (DS)
Brussels - ETRMA and its 12 leading tyre corporate members have said they fully support and welcome the objective of the mandatory tyre performance information requirement. The statement comes in response to a political agreement reached on 1 October between The European Parliament, Commission and Council negotiators on a tyre labelling system similar to that used for domestic appliances.
ETRMA said, "The European co-legislators have fully acknowledged the need for balanced approach on the kind of tyre performances on which information has to be given, by designing an integrated label, which provides both environmental (fuel efficiency and noise levels) as well as safety (wet braking) information."
The group added, "The review that will be performed 40 months after the rules come into play will have to validate whether or not the Regulation targets have been reached, in particular about the relevance and effectiveness of the communication tools which are proposed today."
