Evonik introduces low PAH carbon blacks
ERJ staff report (DS)
Essen, Germany -- Evonik Industries offers two high performance blacks for the production of mechanical rubber goods which ofer low levels of PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon) content. The two materials -- Durex 0 and Purex 45-RP comply with Recommendation XXI of the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (Germany) as well as the Arrêté du 09.11.1994 (France).
Evonik said both products are well suited in the production of food contact materials and for piping and gaskets used for drinking water.
Evonik said Durex 0 is highly pure and easily processed and results in smooth profile surfaces allowing good coloration and high gloss levels.
Purex HS 45-RP, a new product in Evonik's portfolio, is equivalent to Purex HS 45 with the abbreviation RP signifying “reduced PAH content.†Due to the relatively low specific surface area and high structure, said Evonik, compounds with this black have good processability, low die swelling, and high microwave absorption.
