Magnum claims recycled content does not affect tyre performance
ERJ staff report (DS)
Kuala Lumpur -- “What we have here is nothing less than the solution to the global tire and rubber scrap problem" said Gopi Sekhar, CEO of SRI, which is working with Magnum D'Or, a rubber crumbing and recycling company.
The comment follows initial results from the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia which tested compounds containing 20 percent recycled rubber from the joint Magnum / SRI business. The data was compared with commercial light truck tyre compounds. The results were exclusively lab-based; no on-road tests were carried out.
Magnum claims the results show that in spite of the inclusion or substitution of 20% (in this case 14% recycled material content) there was no loss in tensile, elongation at break and Abrasion resistance. The company said, "we could even exceed the original specifications in certain cases. Also the fact that we have done it in the sidewall and tread compounds makes it all the more impressive."
