DSM officially launches EPDM grade to replace gas-phase products
ERJ staff report (DS)
Geleen, Netherlands -- Following the introduction of a developmental grade in April this year, DSM Elastomers has now officially launched Keltan 8642A, which it says can replace gas-phase grades originally produced by Dow at its former plant in Seadrift, Texas. 8642 is a fast curing, high green strength ENB grade with good filler and plasticiser acceptance. DSM said the new grade is particularly suitable for extrusion and molding applications with high level of fillers, such as solid sealing systems.
According to Keltan Product Manager Niels van der Aar, Keltan® 8642A was designed to specifically meet an identified market need: “In line with DSM Elastomer's commitment to innovation, this new grade was developed and commercialised in a matter of months."
DSM said, "Keltan 8642A was introduced to satisfy the market need for high performance products offering premium performance at compound loading levels between 500 - 700phr. Compared to Medium Mooney crystalline EPDM grades, Keltan 8642A has an increased compound loading level with retention of physical properties. Customers who have evaluated the product indicate that new Keltan 8642A has an excellent fit. For instance, in automotive solid sealing system applications customers confirm excellent mixing performance and premium technical performance at high loading levels, offering optimal cost / performance balance"
