Malaysian NR production declines in September

Kuala Lumpur -- Production of natural rubber (NR) recorded 77,203 tonnes in September 2009. This wasdown by 27.3% on the same month a year ago, but up by 3.4% (2,524 tonnes) when compared to the previous month. The smallholding sector contributed 93.7% of total production while the remaining 6.3% came from the estate sector.
Exports fell by 43.3% to 47,291 tonnes when compared to the same month in 2008 and contracted by 30.9% when compared to August 2009. Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) constituted 94.8% (44,838 tonnes) of total exports. Of the total S.M.R. exported, S.M.R. 20 accounted for the highest at 50.3%.
Imports stood at 59,760 tonnes for the month, up by a massive 54.4 percent onthe same month a year ago, but at the same level as in August. The main type of rubber imported was latex concentrate which accounted for 50.6 % of total imports during the reference month.
At the end of September 2009, NR stocks held was 143,462 tonnes, an increase of 3.3% (4,548 tonnes) compared to the level of stocks held in August 2009. However, when compared to the same month last year, stock showed a decrease of 4.3%.
