Momentive to launch new silicone elastomers, double capacity in Shanghai
ERJ staff report (RD)
Albany, New York - Beginning in 2010, Momentive Performance Materials will introduce its Silpus silicone elastomers - a new global heat cured rubber (high consistency elastomer) platform based on uniform production process and raw materials inputs, the company said 19 Nov.
The Silpus elastomer portfolio - which will be produced mainly in Leverkusen, Germany, Shanghai, China and Ohta, Japan - will consist of three platforms, each designed to meet the needs of different applications, and will be available in different hardnesses, the statement said.
The platforms will include:
Silplus MP multi-purpose silicone elastomers - designed to provide customers with flexibility to more easily compound or blend elastomers to achieve the desired properties for applications and processing equipment;
Silpus EX silicone elastomers - designed to help enhance green strength and extrusion performance for hose, tubing and profiles, and;
Silpus HS - designed for high performance applications and can help provide higher strength and enhance mechanical properties.
“We are excited by the many benefits that the new Silplus elastomers will bring - high quality materials, produced in a uniform production process, available in a transparent portfolio around the world,†said Robert Gnann, global market director of Momentive's Elastomer business. “This new platform will naturally result in requalification for some of our customers. We are sensitive to the situation and are dedicated to supporting our customers through the transition,†he added.
In order to meet global demand for these elastomers, Momentive said, the company will double the capacity of its silicone elastomers plant in Shanghai by the end of 2009.
