Ford awards Plasticos Durex global supplier status
ERJ staff report (EPN)
Salamanca, Spain - Plasticos Durex, a Spanish automotive components moulder, has won top level global supplier recognition from the Ford Motor Company.
The Salamanca-based plastics and elastomer moulder, which has worked with the automotive giant for seven years, has been awarded Ford Q1 certification. The award will bring the supplier priority in purchasing orders, the opportunity to export and to participate in the design of future components.
Family-owned Plasticos Durex, which operates a second plant in Legnica, Poland, produces vehicle shock absorbers, suspension and chassis insulation parts, as well as specialised components for hospitals and laboratories. Its processes include plastics extrusion and injection moulding and rubber injection blow moulding.
The company will supply Ford with chassis parts and insulating protective buffers for the Mondeo, Fiesta and Focus models with all their variants for the European market. It was also recently nominated to expand supply of parts for these vehicles beyond to the American and Asian markets, reported Europa Press.
Formed in 1947, Plasticos Durex, which employs 85 and exports more than 70 percent of its production, has a presence in 20 countries. Durex launched the first phase of its expansion in Poland in 2007, when it invested around Euro 4 million to establish Plasticos Durex Polska, a part injection and blow moulding plant. The firm planned to add two further development stages by 2012.
