Solutia to sell Cologne accelerator production to Taminco

Cologne, Germany -- Solutia Inc.is to discontinue manufacturing at its plant in Cologne, Germany, effective as soon as practical. Taminco N.V. is to acquire the assets, contracts and commercial obligations relating to the tetramethylthiuram disulphide (TMTD) and tetraethylthiuram disulphide (TETD) products.Taminco has taken these operations over from yestyerday (Tue 24 Nov).
TMTD and TETD are used almost exclusively in the Rubber industry.Solutia will continue to manufacture and provide Perkacit DPTT to customers.
As a part of the transaction, Solutia will continue to produce TMTD and TETD at Cologne for Taminco during a transition period. The deal and the interim arrangements are expected to close by March 2010. , Taminco intends to transfer production of both products to its plant at Ghent in Belgium.
Both TMTD and TETD are downstream derivatives of the Amines produced by Taminco.
“Due to the emergence of lower cost competition, the TMTD and TETD products manufactured by Solutia at Cologne are no longer competitive on a global scale,†said Mike Donnelly, president and general manager, for Solutia's Technical Specialties business.
