Conti to add masterbatching unit in Romania
ERJ staff report (DS)
Timisoara, Romania -- Continental AG plans to add a first-stage mixing unit to its passenger and light truck tyres plant in Timisoara. The investÂment will allow the company to have a completely integrated production unit, which will conÂsolidate the tyre business in Romania and increase the cost competitiveness of the plant. The investment volume of the project is a two digit million amount and will lead to creating middle- term around 200 new jobs.
Masterbatches are usually taken to mean compounds before the active cure package has been added. This tends to mean rubber and fillers and some of the small chemicals. Contnental did not clarify what was meant in this case.
The plant in Timisoara currently produces 40,000 passenger car tyres per day. The expanÂsion program will improve the technological flow and will ensure complete autonomy to the plant. The technological process fully complies with the current European Union regulation regarding the environmental protection. All emissions will be collected, a filtration system will be installed, and the carbon black and oils will use a pressure-tight isolated circuit. The stanÂdards of the fire protection system will be among the most complex in this field. A permanent environment monitoring system will be installed, according to a pre-established plan.
