Rubore adds new vulcanisation line
ERJ staff report (DS)
Kalmar, Sweden -- Rubore has built a completely new facility for brake shims, comprising 3,000 square meters of floor space, which contains a new vulcanization line, said new President Stefan Lundström, who succeeds founder Percy Josefsson in this position.
Trelleborg Ruboremakes automotive brake shims, which are found on more than 50 percent of the world's passenger cars, or about 400 million cars. A shim is a thin plate comprising a special laminate of rubber and metal. It is located on the car's brake pad, which presses against the brake disc on deceleration. The shims remove vibrations and noise, particularly the high-pitch “squeak†that otherwise occurs during braking.
Trelleborg Rubore said it is well established in terms of passenger cars, but a transition to disc brakes is underway in trucks, which opens a new market for Rubore. The Company's laminate technology can also be used to reduce noise and vibrations in areas other than brakes. Outside the automotive industry, hard-disk vibration damping is an example of an attractive area.
