Trenco to build car tyre plant - reports
ERJ staff report (DS)
Alexandria, Egypt -- State-owned TRENCO (Transport & Engineering) is to build a car tyre plant in Alexandria, Egypt according to multiple press reports from the region. No-one from Trenco was available to answer the phones when ERJ called their offices and the company did not respond to emails.
The Middle East News Agency quoted Trenco's head, Taher Salama, as saying the E£600 million (euro 76.3 million ) investment will be used to make a tyre plant capable of making 500 000 car tyres annually. It is to be located in El-Amerya, to the west of Alexandria and will be operational at the end of 2012.
The unit is to be funded by a combination of local investors, Arab investors and foreign investors, said MENA
A note of confusion was injected when Reuters quoted the MENA story as saying the unit will produce 1.5 million units/year, and this was picked up by other publications. This appears to be a simple mistake.
