ÖAMTC, ADAC, TCS tests show that cheap tyres are less safe

Munich, Germany -- The German, Austrian and Swiss automotive clubs have released the results of their highly influential annual summer tyre tests. The conclusion: cheap tyres are less safe.

The groups jointly carried out comprehensive tests on 36 tyres in two different sizes. The mid-range size of 185/65 R 15 H and the high performance tyres in 225/45 R 17 W/Y.

In the lower-specification segment, the much-sought after highly-recommended rating went to Pirelli's Cinturato P6; Continental's PremiumContact 2; Uniroyal's RainExpert; Dunlop's SP Sport Fastresponse and Nokian's H.

The groups warned against two Chines etyre brands Interstate Touring IST-1 M+S and the Goodride Radial S06 M+S on grounds of poor wet grip.

In the high performance segment the highly recommended rating went to Pirelli's Cinturato P7; Continental's ContiSportContact 3; Bridgestone's Potenza RE050 A; Dunlop's SP Sport MAXX TT and Michelin's Pilot Sport PS3.

The not recommended category included four Chines etyres and one from Europe. Sava's Intensa performed particularly badly in wet grip, as did the Noble Sport NS-20 from Nankang; the Neza200 from Goodride; the S-1063 from Wanli and the SN3800 from Sunny - this last one performed so badly throughout the tests that it scored the overall unacceptable score.
