Pirelli extends 'green performance' range to SUVs

Geneva, Switzerland -- Pirelli has extended its

range of 'green performance' tyres to the SUV category, with the launch in

Geneva of the Scorpion Verde, claimed to be the first eco-friendly tyre for

SUVs, which combines safety with fuel savings, while limiting vehicle emissions.

Green performance is Pirelli's branding for

tyres which deliver performance, but at the same time offer ecological benefits

to the driver. Pirelli noted that there is strong demand among drivers of SUVs

for tyres which offer these ecological benefits.

The company declined to speculate as to why a

driver of a large, high fuel-consumption vehicle might want to buy tyres with

good fuel economy.

Pirelli presented its Cinturato P7 tyre as

another example of  green performance,

saying the tyre “combines reduced consumption with increased braking

performance and road grip”
