Malaysia's NR ouput fell in July

Kuala Lumpur -- In June 2010, production of natural rubber (NR) reached 70,745 tonnes a fall of 9,954 tonnes (-12.3%) on the same month a year ago. The main portion of NR production was contributed by the smallholding sector with 93.6 per cent while the estate sector accounted for only 6.4 per cent.
Malaysia's NR exported 71,339 tonnes of NR in June 2010, increasing by 23.7 per cent on June 20009 and by 11 percent on May 2010. Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) continued to be the main contributor to exports and recorded a total of 68,051 tonnes of which 49.7 per cent was S.M.R 20.
Imports fell by 35.2 percent on the year-ago figure, to 49,679 tonnes. Latex concentrate which accounted for 53.2 per cent of total imports was the main type of rubber imported by Malaysia.
Domestic consumption of NR by 10.9 per cent to 35,977 tonnes compared to the year-ago figure and decreased 11.4 per cent when compared with the previous month.
In June 2010, the average price of rubber recorded an increase over the previous month. The average price of latex concentrate gained 1.1 per cent to 709.77 sen and the average price of S.M.R. 20 increased 1.4 per cent to 932.45 sen. Year-on-year, the average price of rubber for latex concentrate and S.M.R. 20 continued to strengthen surging by 83.2 per cent and 66.4 per cent respectively.
