FTSE ethical index drops Bridgestone, DuPont, BP

London -- The FTSE4Good Global Index ethical index has dropped Bridgestone Corp and DuPont de Nemours from its index because they no longer meet the criteria for inclusion. In addition, BP was suspended, rather being dropped permanently.
FTSE4Good gave no detailed reason for the exclusion. The moves were made as part of a regular twice-yearly review of the index.
All constituent changes will be applied after the close of business on Friday, 17 September 2010 and will be effective on Monday, 20 September 2010.
A report on Reuters said some companies had simply missed deadlines for returning informatino to the Index, but also said FTSE4Good cited human rights issues as the reason for some decisions.
While there is no evidence to link the isssues, Bridgestone owns a large Firestone plantation in Liberia which has been cited in some media as breaching human rights,
