Malaysian NR output declined in July

Kuala Lumpur -- Malaysia produced a total of 81 083 tonnes of natural rubber (NR) in July 2010, a drop of 1821 tonnes (-2.2 percent) compared to the same month a year ago. The figure was up by 10 338 tonnes (+14.6 percent) when compared to the previous month. Malaysia's main producer of NR was from the smallholding sector with a contribution of 93.2 percent while the estate sector accounted for only 6.8 percent.
Exports reached 75 505 tonnes, an increase of 22.5 percent over the year-ago figure, and 5.8 percent more than the previous month. The main type of NR exported was Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) with a total of 71 318 tonnes of which 55.6 percent was from SMR 20.
The major buyers of Malaysia's NR were China (35.3 percent), Germany (14.5 percent), Republic of Korea (5.8 percent), Republic of Iran (5.6 percent), USA. (3.3 percent), Netherlands (2.9 percent), Brazil (2.7 percent), Portugal (2.5 percent) and Taiwan (2.2 percent).
Imports reached 57 033 tonnes in July 2010. Imports down by 17.1 percent over July 2009, but up by 7357 tonnes (+14.8 percent) from the previous month. Latex concentrate was the main type of rubber imported and accounted for 51.5 percent of Malaysia's total imports.
Malaysia imported NR mainly from Thailand (63.1 percent), Vietnam (17.7 percent), Indonesia (5.7 percent), Philippines (3.6 percent) and Myanmar (1.9 percent). Total imports from these five countries accounted for 92.0 percent of total imports.
Domestic consumption of NR in July 2010 totalled 38,184 tonnes, a reduction of 8.7 percent compared to the previous year.
