ANRPC projects rubber demand - tweets report

Cochin, India -- A series of tweets from SRI Elastomers have been reporting from the ANRPC meeting in Cochin, India. They say the following:
- Over 1 billion tyres will reach their end of life this year
- Over a billion passenger cars on the road by 2020
- By the end of the decade there will be 31.7 million metric tons of rubber consumed globally
- 23.9 million MT of rubber consumed in 2010
- 15.8 percent growth in synthetic rubber demand this year
- Butadiene crucial for synthetic rubber market. New source of low priced natural gas, C4, does not yield much butadiene = shortage
- Natural rubber market tight until 2014, short term crunch until new plantings kick in.
- Synthetic rubber production is almost non-existent in India
